Four NFL Futures Bets: Panthers to Repeat, Broncos Under 7.5 Wins
The NFL season kicks off for bettors with the schedule release. Baseball regular-season wagering lacks appeal, NBA playoffs offer few games now, and hockey stays off the table. Instead, focus turns to roster moves, coaching shifts and regression stats for futures bets.
In honor of the league's new fiscal year, here are four teams to buy or short this season.
Carolina Panthers to win NFC South (+310)
The Panthers won the NFC South last year with an 8-9 record, going 7-3 in one-score games that typically regress. Examples include the Kansas City Chiefs' one-score performance in 2024 and 2025. They face the third-toughest schedule, and five playoff teams from last year miss the postseason each year.
Carolina added linebacker Devin Lloyd and pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips, Pro Football Focus's fourth- and 15th-ranked free agents. Lloyd earned second-team All-Pro honors last season and ranked as PFF's third-best linebacker. The Miami Dolphins traded Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles before Week 10; Philly's defensive EPA per play improved from 17th in Weeks 1-9 to seventh in Weeks 10-18, per RBSDM.com.
The NFL revolves around quarterbacks, and Bryce Young ranks as a franchise guy deserving a second deal. He placed third in fourth-quarter comebacks and second in game-winning drives last season. Carolina's offensive line holds strong across the board, and receiver Tetairoa McMillan took 2025 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Defensive boosts and expected growth from Young make the Panthers a play to repeat in the NFL's softest division at +310.
Denver Broncos under 7.5 alternate wins (+280)
Bo Nix fractured his ankle in Denver's 2026 AFC Wild Card win over Buffalo and does not look like a franchise quarterback. His success seems tied to luck, talent around him and Sean Payton's schemes.
The Broncos acquired receiver Jaylen Waddle, a solid No. 2 but no game-breaker; wideouts rarely swing win-loss records. Regression looms with a first-place schedule (11th-easiest), good injury luck (eighth in adjusted games lost, per FTN Fantasy) and 11-2 in one-score games.
The first six games hit hard: Chiefs in Week 1, Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, at San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, at Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5, Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. The AFC West features contenders Kansas City and the Chargers with superior odds.
Alternate lines offer value over standard -110. Bet Broncos under 7.5 alternate wins at +280 on DraftKings, expecting a face-plant that exposes Nix.
Tennessee Titans over 8.5 alternate wins (+250) and Robert Saleh for NFL Coach of the Year (+1000)
Titans playoff odds sit at +320 on DraftKings, with over 8.5 alternate wins at +250. They could hit nine-plus wins and miss playoffs. Division odds are +800 in a tight AFC South with Houston Texans and Jaguars; Saleh's Coach of the Year could shorten from +1000.
New coach Robert Saleh pairs with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and No. 1 pick quarterback Cam Ward from the 2025 draft. Saleh's Jets stint ended Week 5 of 2024 amid quarterback woes, not defense. Ward brings 90 percent arm strength, mobility, run throws and legs.
Tennessee drafted Carnell Tate fourth overall and signed slot receiver Wan'Dale Robinson. They led free-agency spending, letting Saleh and Daboll build to fit. Daboll earned 2022 Coach of the Year with the Giants and aided Josh Allen in Buffalo.
If Ward pans out, Saleh steadies defense and Daboll clicks on offense, Tennessee overperforms. Bet three-fourths unit on over 8.5 alternate wins, one-fourth on Saleh for Coach of the Year.
Minnesota Vikings to win NFC North (+550)
The Vikings signed Kyler Murray on a team-friendly deal after his 2019 No. 1 bust label. Murray seeks a rebound like Sam Darnold, who thrived in Minnesota. Murray tops J.J. McCarthy with playoff trips, two Pro Bowls, elusiveness and arm strength.
Regret hit fast after picking McCarthy over Darnold last offseason; McCarthy flopped while Darnold won a Super Bowl. That cost general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah his job. Coach Kevin O'Connell holds a 43-25 record with 13- and 14-win seasons, plus 2024 Coach of the Year.
Pass-catchers shine with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings and T.J. Hockenson. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores stands out and eyes another head job. The NFC North packs competition, but talent and staff make +550 odds (should be +400) a buy for worst-to-first.
