Superpretzel to sell star-shaped pretzels for America's 250th birthday

Superpretzel is releasing star-shaped pretzels to mark America's 250th anniversary.

The pretzels are shaped like what the company called "America's most iconic symbol" and are described as "patriotic from the freezer to the fork."

"America’s 250th is a celebration people will remember for years to come, and we wanted to create something simple, fun and shareable for families to enjoy together," said Lynwood Mallard, chief marketing officer at J&J Snack Foods.

The pretzels are made in the Philadelphia area, where the company said the nation's founding began. It added that the regional heritage gives the product "history baked in," coming from the heart of "Pretzel Country."

The snacks are sold at sports and amusement parks, movie theaters and other entertainment venues. They are also available in the freezer aisle of most grocery and mass retail stores nationwide. The company said they are "freezer-to-oven ready in minutes" and recommended preparing them in an air fryer for extra crispness.

The star pretzels go on sale Memorial Day and will remain available until September.

Several other brands are releasing limited-edition patriotic products for the anniversary. Maker's Mark will sell bourbon in bottles with its signature red wax accented by a white dip and a blue seal starting June 1. A portion of proceeds will go to the Farmer Veteran Coalition.

Pillsbury is releasing Funfetti Stars & Stripes cake mixes and frostings in patriotic colors. Sparkling Ice is teaming with Life Savers on a red, white and blue 12-pack of zero-sugar sparkling water and is also partnering with rapper Flavor Flav.

Coca-Cola is rolling out special America 250 packaging and collectible mini-cans featuring features of all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Cheerios is releasing a birthday cake-flavored cereal in red, white and blue boxes.

Mountain Dew has rebranded itself "American Dew" with stars and stripes on its bottles and cans. Oreo is introducing Firecracker Pop Oreo cookies made with Popsicle, featuring blue raspberry, lemon and cherry crème between golden wafers.
