PSG fans clash with police in Paris after Champions League win
Clashes between football fans and police across France led to more than 400 arrests after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final.
Thousands of officers were deployed to contain unrest that disrupted bus, train and rail services in Paris. Fireworks and flares were set off, several police officers were injured, and police fired tear gas to disperse crowds in the city centre.
It was the second consecutive year of football-related violence after PSG's 2025 victory celebrations turned deadly. Footage from Paris showed flares being set off, electric bikes burning on roads and fans smashing at least one shopfront.
The Champs-Élysées filled with supporters shortly after PSG won on penalties. Earlier in the day, clashes broke out between police and fans gathered to watch the final on giant screens at the Parc des Princes.
Police said six vehicles, two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged. France's interior ministry reported 416 arrests in the early hours of Sunday, including 280 in Paris.
"Only in France does everyone feel compelled to lock themselves in their homes on the evening of a victory to avoid being confronted with violence," one resident said.
Players are scheduled to take part in a victory parade on Sunday afternoon that will pass the Champ-de-Mars next to the Eiffel Tower and include a reception hosted by President Emmanuel Macron.
