Golden Knights rally to beat Hurricanes 5-4 in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final
The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night in Raleigh.
Vegas trailed 2-0 after the first period but scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead. The teams traded goals in the third period before Tomas Hertl scored the winner with 3:25 remaining.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice for Carolina in the opening period. He opened the scoring 25 seconds into the game and added a second goal midway through the period.
Shea Theodore answered for Vegas with a one-timer that beat Frederik Andersen to make it 2-1. Ivan Barbashev tied the game early in the second period, and William Karlsson gave the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead later in the frame.
Jordan Staal tied the score at 3-3 before the second period ended. Brett Howden put Vegas ahead 4-3 with a tip-in 1:21 into the third period.
Shayne Gostisbehere tied the game again with 8:41 left. Hertl then scored the decisive goal on a pass from Colton Sissons after a face-off.
The Golden Knights have now won seven straight games. Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday night in Raleigh.
