Dua Lipa sued Samsung for at least $15 million, accusing the electronics company of using her photo to promote its televisions without her permission or payment.

The complaint, filed Friday in US District Court in California, states that Samsung printed an image of Lipa on TV screens depicted on cardboard packaging for a significant portion of its US-sold TVs last year.

The 30-year-old British singer learned of the image in June 2025. She demanded that Samsung stop using it right away but said the company was dismissive and callous and repeatedly refused.

"Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever," the lawsuit states. "Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use."

Lipa holds the copyright to the photo, taken backstage before her performance at the Austin City Limits festival in 2024.

The suit alleges copyright infringement, violation of California's right of publicity statute, a federal Lanham Act claim, and trademark infringement.

It claims Samsung profited by implying her endorsement. Fans posted comments on social media, including: "I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it. That’s how obsessed I am. That’s how much I love her."

One wrote: "I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it."

Another said: "If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it."

Lipa picks endorsements carefully and has past deals with Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari and Nespresso, among others. Samsung’s actions mock her efforts to build a brand and rob her of control over her assets, the lawsuit says.

She wants a permanent injunction against Samsung, no less than $15 million in actual damages, punitive damages and legal costs.

Samsung has not responded to requests for comment.
