Carson Daly joins Snapchat to stay in touch with his 13-year-old daughter

Carson Daly says he joined Snapchat six months ago to stay in touch with his 13-year-old daughter.

The longtime television host spoke about the challenge during an appearance on "Today with Jenna and Sheinelle." He joked that he has a 13-year-old, Etta, "who is doing great, who I never speak with." He asked the hosts, "Do you speak 13-year-old? 'Cause I don’t."

Daly said he took a page from business marketing and decided to meet his daughter where she is. "I’ve taken a page out of that and six months ago, I did join Snapchat," he said. "I have literally communicated with my daughter, in particular, more via Snapchat than I have in real life."

He described sending quick messages with emojis and receiving short replies. "I can say, ‘Are you OK?’ And then I’ll put some stupid emoji. And she’ll write back, like, ‘LOL,’ and all these little things are flying all over the screen," Daly said. "As silly as it is, I am connected a little bit."

Daly and his wife, Siri Pinter, also have a 17-year-old son, Jackson, and daughters London, 11, and Goldie, 6.

Daly has spoken openly about fatherhood in the past. At the Emmys in September 2019, he told Fox News that being a father is his biggest accomplishment and helped him find his purpose. He lost his biological father at age 5 and said both his mother and stepfather died in 2017. "So I understand the importance of parenting," he said. "At the end of the day, being a father is my greatest role in life."
