Arrowhead Stadium Renamed Kansas City Stadium for 2026 World Cup
Arrowhead Stadium will switch to the name Kansas City Stadium for the 2026 World Cup. Crews have begun major changes to prepare the venue in Kansas City for FIFA's tournament.
Workers removed about 3,500 seats along the north sideline to fit a regulation soccer pitch. Chiefs Executive Vice President Matt Kenny said the stadium's modular design allows the seats to snap back into place after the event.
Kenny noted that ownership has pursued World Cup matches in Kansas City for years. The tournament runs from mid-June to mid-July 2026.
The upgrades extend beyond the field. New LED lighting and an improved audio system aim to preserve Arrowhead's status as one of sports' loudest venues.
FIFA rules require covering Chiefs sponsor signage during matches. The changes let the organization modernize the stadium before returning it to Patrick Mahomes and the team.
