Ruben Dias confirms split from Maya Jama, denies cheating

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias confirmed he and Love Island presenter Maya Jama have split, but said neither of them cheated.

"When my 85-year-old grandad is asking me if I've cheated on my girlfriend because he's seen it repeatedly on the news, that's where I draw the line on what's acceptable and what's not," Dias wrote in an Instagram statement.

"Maya and I have always had a relationship built on mutual respect. No line was ever crossed in that regard."

The couple removed photos of each other from their social media accounts in mid-May, prompting weeks of speculation about their relationship. Dias, 29, said he usually stays silent on personal rumours but felt it was wrong to let false stories stand for the sake of clicks.

"The reasons why we broke up are private and belong to us and we've both dealt with it in a very mature way," he wrote. "Respect me, respect Maya, and understand that not always one has to betray the other in order for a relationship to end."

Jama, 31, has not commented publicly. Her representatives declined to issue a statement when contacted by the BBC.

The pair met in Manchester in November 2024 at the MTV European Music Awards and confirmed their relationship in April 2025. Dias joined Manchester City for a £65 million fee and signed a two-year contract extension in August 2025 that runs until 2029. Jama is due to appear in the second series of The Celebrity Traitors UK later this year and has an undisclosed role in the second season of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series The Gentleman.
