Aaron Rodgers Skips Steelers Visit Amid Return Rumors
Aaron Rodgers did not return to Pittsburgh as expected.
Reports last Friday indicated the quarterback would visit the Pittsburgh Steelers to prepare for a comeback with the team he played for last year. But on Monday's edition of The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, Adam Schefter said neither the Steelers nor Rodgers' agent knew of any such meeting.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Rodgers was in the city but not scheduled to see the team. Pittsburgh radio station 93.7 The Fan said he was there for golf.
The Steelers applied an unrestricted free-agent tender to Rodgers last month. That gives Pittsburgh the right to match any offer he receives from another team.
Schefter said he believes Rodgers will appear on the Steelers' depth chart by training camp. The team's organized team activities start next Monday.
Rodgers led Pittsburgh to a 10-7 record last season. The team made the playoffs after Baltimore Ravens rookie Tyler Loop's game-winning field goal. Pittsburgh lost to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round. That extended the Steelers' playoff winless streak to eight seasons, including the last three years.
In 16 games, Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He is a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame upon retirement.
The Steelers overhauled their roster for 2026. Mike McCarthy, Rodgers' former head coach with the Green Bay Packers, replaced Mike Tomlin. Tomlin's 19-year run from 2007 to 2025 ended. The team acquired receiver Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts and drafted Alabama's Germie Bernard. Running back Kenneth Gainwell departed, with Rico Dowdle joining Jaylen Warren in the backfield.
Questions persist about Rodgers' role with the revamped Steelers next year.
