USMNT opens World Cup with 3-1 win over Paraguay
The United States men's national team opened its World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Paraguay on Friday night at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, California.
An own goal by Paraguay's Damián Bobadilla in the sixth minute gave the Americans an early lead. Folarin Balogun doubled the advantage in the 30th minute with his first World Cup goal.
Balogun struck again just before halftime, curling a shot into the top-left corner after a pass from Malik Tillman. The United States led 3-0 at the break.
Mauricio pulled one back for Paraguay in the 73rd minute. The Americans next play Australia on June 19 in Seattle.
