Former NFL star Charle Young, who won a Super Bowl title with the San Francisco 49ers, has died. He was 75. The team announced his death on Tuesday.

The 49ers mourned Young in a post on X. "The 49ers mourn the passing of former TE Charle Young," the team wrote. "Our organization sends its deepest condolences to the Young family and friends."

Young starred as a tight end at USC before turning pro. The school issued a statement on his death and noted his college and professional career. "Fight On Forever, Charles Young," the school said in a post on X.

The Philadelphia Eagles picked Young sixth overall in the 1973 NFL Draft. He made the Pro Bowl in three of his four seasons there before moving to the Los Angeles Rams in 1977. He played three seasons with the Rams.

Young signed with the 49ers in 1980. He contributed to their 1981 Super Bowl-winning season. In Super Bowl XVI, he caught one pass for 14 yards as San Francisco beat the Cincinnati Bengals. He scored a touchdown in a divisional playoff game against the New York Giants on the road to the title.

He closed his career with three years for the Seattle Seahawks.

Over 187 NFL games, Young had 418 catches for 5,106 yards and 27 touchdowns. He earned All-Pro honors and the 1973 UPI Rookie of the Year award.

At USC, Young helped win the 1972 national championship and made All-American. He recorded 62 catches for 998 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Trojans.

Young entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
