South East Water CEO David Hinton Resigns After Winter Supply Failures
The chief executive of South East Water, which drew heavy criticism after severe supply problems caused hardship for tens of thousands of customers over the winter, has resigned.
South East Water said David Hinton decided to step down but will stay in his post to ensure an orderly transition over the summer. "He feels his position has become an increasing distraction from South East Water's most important priority, which is to deliver a resilient water supply for its customers," the company said.
Several MPs called for Hinton to resign after a series of water supply failures affected thousands of customers in Kent and Sussex in recent months.
His departure comes seven days after Chris Train, the chair of South East Water, resigned following a damning select committee report on the problems.
Some 24,000 properties in Kent and Sussex lost water or faced low pressure in November and December. Weeks later, up to 30,000 properties encountered more supply issues.
Interim chair Lisa Clement said: "The board acknowledges and thanks Dave for his many years of loyal dedication and service to South East Water."
