Rays Face Blue Jays with Rasmussen vs. Gausman on Mound
The Tampa Bay Rays meet the Toronto Blue Jays today in a matchup between two teams eyeing the postseason. Nearly a quarter into the MLB season, the Rays hold a strong 26-13 record, one of the best in baseball. They post a winning road mark, though about 75 percent of their losses came on the road in gray uniforms.
Rays starter Drew Rasmussen has shone after shifting to full-time starter duty in 2025 from a swing role in 2024. This year he stands 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. In four road starts, his ERA runs almost two runs higher than at home. None proved disastrous, including a 3.2-inning, four-run outing against Pittsburgh. His most recent start came against the Blue Jays, where he yielded three earned runs over six innings.
The Blue Jays sit at 18-22 after losing the World Series to the Dodgers last year. They own a 12-9 home record. Their offense matches the Rays' production this season, a potential bright spot. But the pitching staff struggles with a 4.08 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
Toronto's Kevin Gausman has outperformed the staff at 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. He thrives at home, going 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA over 24 innings. He notched quality starts in three of four home outings and five of eight overall.
Rasmussen and Gausman last matched up in a 4-3 Rays victory, both pitching well. Hitters often fare better against recent foes, but these two stand out. Still, both offenses impress, and the over looks solid with runs likely from starters and relievers.
