Pit crew member injured stopping runaway box at Dover
A pit crew member was hurt Saturday at Dover International Speedway when he stepped in front of a runaway pit box to protect a reporter.
The incident happened before the Craftsman Truck Series race while teams were moving their equipment into position. A Spire Motorsports pit box rolled toward the pit wall, sending people scrambling. Donovan Williams, the tire carrier for Daniel Suarez’s No. 7 Cup Series team, tried to stop the box from striking Fox pit reporter Amanda Busick.
No one was seriously injured. Williams suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital before being released overnight, Fox Sports reported.
The mishap kept Williams out of the pit-stop challenge scheduled for All-Star weekend. Amanda Busick later thanked him on X.
The episode underscored the need for constant attention in the pits, where even routine moves can turn dangerous in seconds.
