NASCAR honors Kyle Busch at Charlotte with moments of silence
Kyle Busch died Thursday at age 41 after severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis. NASCAR's Truck Series and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series paid tribute to him this weekend at Charlotte.
Busch spent more than 20 years as a full-time Cup Series driver but still raced occasionally in the Truck Series and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series. He won 69 of 184 Truck races and owned a team in that series. His final victory came in a Truck race at Dover less than a week before his death.
The Truck Series ran at Charlotte on Friday as part of the Coca-Cola 600 weekend. Corey Day drove the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, the truck in which Busch took his last win. The entry started on the pole after qualifying was rained out. Teams and fans observed a moment of silence before the scheduled start.
The race was postponed twice because of rain and moved to Saturday night. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series also held a moment of silence for Busch before its Charlotte race on Saturday. That event was suspended by rain as well.
The Cup Series is scheduled to run the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
