MJF Signs Contract to Risk Hair Against AEW Champion Darby Allin at Double or Nothing
Maxwell Jacob Friedman faced a key choice on Dynamite. He had to decide whether to risk his hair in a match against Darby Allin for the All Elite Wrestling World Championship at Double or Nothing.
Allin had warned that MJF would get no more title shots unless he accepted the stipulation. MJF entered the ring amid chants of "bald."
"I’m happy for you. I hope you had fun holding my AEW World Championship, I really do," MJF said as he considered signing the contract. "Deep down, there’s a part of me, and I’m talking about the size of a man’s penis from North Carolina small, small, small part that feels bad for you because you’re never gonna hold this again. I mean, you’ve got about as good of a shot at holding this world title as ‘Hangman’ Adam Page does again."
"Guys like you, Darby, you’re a dime a dozen – here today, gone tomorrow. Stuntmen who burn the candle at both ends. In this life, people like all of you, you like to pretend that life is about making friends and family and your children. The only thing that matters in this life is your legacy. And your legacy will be that of a kid who had his 15 minutes of fame. They’ll pretend like you made some sort of impact but the fact of the matter is you haven’t, bud."
MJF called Allin just "lucky" and said fans would see he was "too reckless and stupid" to stay on top. He promised to claim a third world title at age 30.
Allin brushed off talk of legacy. He vowed to leave MJF a "bald-headed b---h."
MJF signed the contract, then landed cheap shots on Allin. He struck him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Allin defended the title against Konosuke Takeshita on Dynamite. Takeshita pressed him hard with moves like a bridging German suplex off the top rope. Allin fought back with grit.
Takeshita bloodied Allin's mouth. Allin endured the punishment and escaped a Scorpion Death Lock. He followed with two Coffin Drops to win.
"Speedball" Mike Bailey had called out the winner earlier. He now lines up as Allin's next challenger.
The 2026 Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments drew their fields on Dynamite.
In the men's draw, Samoa Joe faces Will Ospreay and Mark Davis faces Jack Perry on one side. Swerve Strickland meets Bandido and Claudio Castagnoli meets Brody King on the other. The Joe-Ospreay and Strickland-Bandido bouts happen at Double or Nothing.
The women's side pits Persephone against Hazuki and Willow Nightingale against Alex Windsor on the left. Mina Shirakawa faces Athena and Skye Blue faces Saree on the right. Nightingale and Windsor clash at Double or Nothing.
Men's and women's finals take place at Forbidden Door on June 28. Winners earn title shots at All In on Aug. 30.
Will Ospreay returned to the AEW ring after doctors halted his match against Mark Davis on April 22. He trained with the Death Riders, who aimed to sharpen him into a weapon.
Ospreay bridged on a mat as Jon Moxley offered headlock tips alongside Yuta Wheeler. From a parking garage rooftop, Moxley shared advice.
"Nothing is different. Nothing has changed. All of those things are still gonna be there but you can still fly," Moxley said. "You’re just more dangerous. You’re a bird of prey. So tonight when you go out there, don’t go out there to protect anything – not your neck, not your image, not your reputation, not everything you built in your career. Don’t go out there to protect something. Go out there to give something."
Ospreay submitted Ace Austin and now enters the Owen Hart men's tournament against Samoa Joe. Joe planned to send Anthony Bowens and Katsuyori Shibata after him, but Death Riders intervened.
Brian Cage ended a 14-month injury absence to answer Kevin Knight's TNT Championship open challenge. Renee Paquette called him "somehow, more jacked, more locked in" than before.
Cage's last AEW TV match came in March 2025. He teamed with Konosuke Takeshita and Lance Archer to beat Mark Briscoe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Rocky Romero. He held the Ring of Honor TV title in 2024 and challenged Ospreay for the AEW International Championship.
Knight pinned Cage.
