Mark Hamill Posts, Deletes Image of Trump in Casket Amid Star Wars Streaming Slump

Mark Hamill has turned Luke Skywalker into a miserable figure, the actor writes in a recent post. He describes the Star Wars hero as an old, insufferable, pathetic loser. Hamill's shift stems from Trump Derangement Syndrome, which he links to 2016, comparing it to his grandmother's decline.

Hamill posted a picture of President Trump in a casket on his Bluesky account earlier this week. He had left Elon Musk's Twitter after Trump's election win. The post sparked intense backlash, leading Hamill to delete it Thursday night and issue an apology. He claimed the image depicted something else.

The post follows a rough week for Star Wars. Nielsen data released earlier this week shows streaming viewership over the past year. None of Disney's sequels to the Skywalker saga made the top 10 most streamed Star Wars films or shows last May the Fourth. The list featured the original trilogy, the three prequels and Disney's Andor series.

Hamill reprised Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi after starring in The Force Awakens. Disney called the first sequel an ode to fans with the main cast returning. It outperformed the others. Luke appeared as a reclusive, world-hating old man.

John Boyega, who played Finn, a Black stormtrooper, criticized Disney for mishandling his character's introduction. Finn's arc faltered in the final two films due to poor writing. Boyega attributed it to race.

Other issues plagued the sequels. Rumors swirled of a gay romance between Finn and Poe. The second film added an Asian love interest for Finn that made little sense. The third brought back Emperor Palpatine, killed by Darth Vader decades earlier. He appeared hanging from a clothes hanger in a cave.
