Knicks rally from 29 down to beat Spurs 107-106, take 3-1 NBA Finals lead
The New York Knicks do not die.
After trailing by as many as 29 points, the Knicks staged another comeback to steal a 107-106 win over the San Antonio Spurs and take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
The winning moment came at the fingertip of OG Anunoby, whose tip-in off a missed Jalen Brunson three-pointer sent Madison Square Garden into a frenzy.
Karl-Anthony Towns picked up two fouls in the first 62 seconds. The Spurs used that stretch to open a 41-20 lead, then shot 54 percent from three-point range in the first half to reach a 76-49 halftime advantage and a 29-point lead.
New York cut the deficit to 15 by the end of the third quarter. A slow start to the fourth put San Antonio back up by 20, but the Knicks answered with a 13-2 run to pull within nine with under seven minutes left. They kept coming, trimming the margin to four with 4:32 to play and to one with two minutes remaining before taking the lead with 90 seconds left.
The Spurs hit two free throws to regain the advantage with 30.3 seconds on the clock. San Antonio could not get a shot off on the next inbound, and Anunoby's tip-in gave the Knicks the win.
Head coach Mike Brown called the play the biggest in Knicks basketball history. The Knicks outscored the Spurs 58-30 after halftime.
