Dale Coyne Racing to run Kyle Busch's No. 18 at Indianapolis 500
Kyle Busch was widely respected across motorsports, not just in NASCAR. One of his most recognizable numbers will appear at the 110th Indianapolis 500.
Busch drove the No. 5, No. 18 and No. 8 in the Cup Series. The No. 18 is the number most fans link to him. He used it for 15 years, including both of his championship seasons.
Sports Business Journal's Adam Stern reported that Dale Coyne Racing will display the classic No. 18 on the Honda driven by Romain Grosjean. The number was used on Busch's cars at Joe Gibbs Racing. The idea came from Fox Sports IndyCar commentator Townsend Bell, who contacted Joe Gibbs Racing to clear the trademarked number.
Busch never raced in the Indy 500 or IndyCar. He did have success at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in NASCAR. His brother Kurt Busch ran both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day in 2014.
Grosjean will start Sunday's race in 24th position.
