USMNT finalizes 26-man roster for 2026 World Cup
The United States, one of the three host nations for the 2026 World Cup, has reportedly finalized its 26-player roster for the tournament.
U.S. Soccer is not expected to announce the roster until after Memorial Day. Reports citing sources say Brenden Aaronson, Mark McKenzie, Matt Turner and Sebastian Berhalter are among the expected selections. Sebastian Berhalter is the son of former USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter. Aaronson played for the United States at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Sources also told The Athletic that Gio Reyna is expected to be included on the roster for Mauricio Pochettino’s first World Cup as USMNT manager.
Reyna was sent home from the 2022 World Cup over what were described as behavioral issues. The 23-year-old has remained a polarizing figure in the U.S. player pool despite his talent. He logged 509 minutes for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season.
As questions about his future with the national team continued, Reyna recently said he hopes to receive a call-up.
“I’m just hoping and waiting for the call-up, it would be an honor,” Reyna said. “The national team means a lot to me. … I’d love to be there, have an impact on the team. It would be a dream to represent my country at the World Cup.”
Reports indicate Real Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna did not make the final squad. Luna scored four goals in 18 matches for the national team and added 22 goals over the past three seasons with Real Salt Lake. Zavier Gozo, also of Real Salt Lake, was told he would not be on the team this summer.
The USMNT opens its World Cup campaign on June 12 against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
