Two Illegal Immigrants Charged with Capital Murder in Dallas Shooting Death of Pregnant Teen

Two illegal immigrants face capital murder charges in Dallas after allegedly shooting a pregnant 17-year-old girl, whose unborn child died as a result, authorities said.

Yeremy Alexander Zapata Aleman, 17, from Honduras, and Keyner Ariel Calero Jiron, 20, from Nicaragua, both entered the U.S. illegally, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The pair are accused in the shooting that followed a verbal altercation in a 7-Eleven parking lot, which escalated into a drive-by attack and a police chase, KDFW reported.

The incident took place on May 3 around 12:40 a.m. The pregnant teen was riding with another person who confronted the suspects from a vehicle before driving away from the parking lot. The victims said the suspects followed them shortly after.

Calero Jiron was driving when the gunfire struck the victim and her unborn child. Bullets also hit another vehicle, but its driver was not injured.

Police spotted Calero Jiron's car and pursued it until he crashed. Officers found cocaine and MDMA inside, along with illegal weapons.

The victim, 22 weeks pregnant, told police about the baby. She was rushed to Baylor Hospital, where doctors performed a cesarean section. The infant did not survive.

Conviction on the capital murder charges could bring the death penalty for both men.

Calero Jiron faces additional charges of five counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of cocaine possession, and one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon. Zapata Aleman faces five counts of felony aggravated assault and one count of cocaine possession on top of the murder charge.
