Nebraska troopers seize 525 pounds of cocaine in traffic stop

Nebraska State Patrol troopers seized more than 500 pounds of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 on Wednesday.

A trooper pulled over the vehicle after it followed too closely behind a semi-truck. K9 Gable alerted to the odor of a controlled substance, prompting a search.

Officers found approximately 525 pounds of suspected cocaine and 9.3 grams of suspected heroin inside the vehicle. The driver, 23-year-old Gurarppan Gill of Yuba City, California, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.

The Nebraska State Patrol credited K9 Gable for locating the drugs. The agency posted that the dog "sniffed out 525 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop on I-80." The patrol's K9 unit also posted that the dog "assisted in locating approximately 525 lbs of suspected Cocaine."

The seizure follows several other recent K9-assisted drug busts reported by law enforcement agencies across the country.
