Trump in excellent health despite leg swelling and hand bruising, doctor says

Donald Trump has been dealing with lower leg swelling and benign hand bruising but remains in excellent health, the president’s physician said in a memo released by the White House.

The memo from Dr. Sean Barbabella, dated Tuesday and released late Friday, cited results from a recent examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. It said Trump “remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function” and is “fully fit to carry out all duties” of the presidency.

Tuesday’s visit was Trump’s third in 13 months and fourth in his second term. The White House has addressed several health issues in the past year after photos showed swollen ankles, bruised hands and a blotchy neck.

Trump, the oldest person elected president, turns 80 on June 14. He said shortly after the visit that “everything checked out perfectly.”

Barbabella’s memo noted “slight lower leg swelling … with improvement from last year.” It described the hand bruising as “common,” “benign” and “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.”

The memo did not explain skin treatment on Trump’s neck in March or mention another MRI exam. It said his cardiac function is normal and that a neurological exam showed normal mental status, including screenings for depression and anxiety.

The memo listed Trump’s height as 6 feet 3 inches and weight as 238 pounds. It added that preventive counseling covered diet, low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity and continued weight loss.
