The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to produce a film based on a true story of British troops under siege during the Afghanistan war.

Their production company Archewell is developing a feature film for Netflix from the book No Way Out by Major Adam Jowett.

Jowett led a unit of soldiers who defended a compound in Musa Qala, a Taliban stronghold in Helmand province, against waves of attacks in 2006.

The subject holds personal meaning for Prince Harry. He served 10 years in the British Army until 2015, including two tours in Afghanistan.

Harry has stayed involved with veterans. He launched the Invictus Games for wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

Earlier this year, he responded to US President Donald Trump's comments that allies including the UK stayed "a little back" from front lines in Afghanistan. Trump later praised UK troops on Truth Social as "among the greatest of all warriors".

"I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there," the duke said.

He and the duchess will co-produce the film adaptation of No Way Out.

The book came out in 2019. Its publisher calls it a "powerful, highly-charged and moving" account.

Matt Charman is writing the script. He earned an Oscar nomination in 2016 for co-writing Steven Spielberg's Cold War drama Bridge of Spies.

This marks the Sussexes' latest film and TV project with Netflix. They also produce adaptations of Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date and a polo drama, following a docuseries on the sport.
