Kristoffer Reitan pocketed $3.6 million after winning the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow for his first PGA Tour victory. That prize money would transform most lives, but Reitan stands apart because of his family's vast business holdings.

The 28-year-old skipped college golf at the University of Texas to turn pro. He completed European Tour qualifying school in 2018 and competed on the Challenge Tour. Reitan secured a DP World Tour card in 2024.

In 2025, he notched his first DP World Tour win and ended the season eighth in the Race to Dubai standings. That performance earned him a PGA Tour card for 2026, where he has posted a victory and three other top-15 finishes. He now ranks 25th in the world.

Reitan worked hard on the course to reach this point. Off it, though, he faced fewer money worries than most pros chasing the top level.

His grandfather, Odd Reitan, founded the REMA 1000 grocery chain in 1979. By 1990, every Norwegian village with more than 10,000 residents had a REMA 1000 store. The chain later expanded to Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Sweden and Slovakia.

Odd Reitan's son, Ole, directs REMA 1000. Odd now owns the entire chain through Reitangruppen, which employs 38,000 people.

In 2004, Reitan Convenience took over the Narvesen and 7-Eleven brands. Two years later, Reitan acquired Hydro Texaco in Norway and Denmark, a smart move as Reitan Convenience kept growing. The company launched Reitan Kapital in 2016. Kristoffer's father, Magnus Reitan, serves as CEO of Reitan Kapital.

Since the late 1970s, the Reitan family has built dominance in five business sectors. Forbes ranks Odd Reitan and his family 383rd richest worldwide with $9.1 billion in net worth.

Reitan Retail today runs nearly 3,600 stores in seven Nordic and Baltic countries.
