Mississippi Sheriff Fires Deputy Who Punched Umpire in Youth Baseball Brawl
A Mississippi sheriff's deputy lost his job after punching an umpire during a youth baseball game brawl.
The incident took place over the weekend in Starkville. It stood out among other fights between youth baseball coaches and umpires. The deputy involved in the Oktibbeha County clash traded punches with the umpire.
OutKick reporter Joe Kinsey called the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office for comment. A deputy said leadership was at lunch and promised a call back. At 2:54 p.m. ET, Kinsey received a call from Starkville. Sheriff Shank Phelps identified himself and revealed he had fired the deputy on the spot.
Phelps axed the man without any further department investigation. Kinsey reported the firing first, praising Phelps for his direct approach.
Elsewhere in the newsletter, Kinsey noted actress Elizabeth Hurley, 60, has shifted to farming content in Tennessee, holding goats and turtles instead of modeling bikinis. He speculated it signals the end of her five-decade career in that space, with few models like Heidi Klum or Sofia Vergara to replace her in pop culture.
Kinsey criticized e-bike and scooter gangs for damaging a Florida golf course to the tune of $3,000 and prompting a 50-mph police chase in California with a 19-year-old on an electric dirt bike.
Reader mail included a story from MP in Staunton, Virginia, linking a North Dakota lawnmower bar trip to country singer George Jones riding his John Deere to a bar. Mike in Houston listed old TV favorites like The Lone Ranger. Scott in Florida agreed on laundry habits for shorts and shirts.
