Jon Rahm Pays Fines to Regain DP World Tour Access After LIV Stint
Jon Rahm reached an agreement with the DP World Tour that allows the two-time major champion to compete on the European golf circuit this season, at a literal cost to him.
In March, the Spaniard called the tour's demands on players returning from LIV Golf extortion. The Saudi Public Investment Fund's withdrawal of funding from LIV changed that dynamic for Rahm and tour executives.
"There's no longer a standoff. We were able to reach an agreement. There were some concessions on both sides. I offered some; they extended an olive branch," Rahm said ahead of this week's LIV event in Virginia. "Obviously, we've reached an agreement. That will not be a stress anymore."
The DP World Tour confirmed the deal in a Tuesday statement, which included payments of all outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date. The arrangement resembles one eight other LIV golfers accepted in February to regain event access.
Rahm faces fines of up to $3 million for playing conflicting LIV events after joining the league before the 2024 season.
The agreement raises questions about Rahm's future with LIV Golf, whose prospects beyond 2026 remain uncertain.
Rahm referred to his lengthy contract when discussing his LIV commitment. "As of right now, I have several years on my contract left, and I'm pretty sure they did a pretty good job when they drafted that," he said. "So I don't see many ways out, and as of right now, I'm not really thinking about it since we still have a season to play and majors to compete for. So it's not something I want to think about just yet."
Rahm's deal with the DP World Tour comes as LIV has reportedly paid him well over $100 million.
