Secretary Rubio to Deliver White House Press Briefing Tuesday
Secretary of State Marco Rubio will take the White House press briefing podium on Tuesday, adding to his growing list of high-profile roles in the Trump administration.
White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said Rubio will provide an update on the humanitarian successes of Project Freedom and other foreign policy priorities. "As an invaluable member of President Trump’s national security team, Secretary Rubio will provide an update on the humanitarian successes of Project Freedom and other foreign policy priorities," Kelly told Fox News Digital.
The briefing marks the first since Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt began maternity leave at the end of April ahead of her second child's birth. While Leavitt is out, the White House plans a rotation of Trump administration officials at the podium, including Vice President JD Vance and President Trump himself.
Rubio has held several acting positions. He became acting administrator of the U.S. Administration for International Development shortly after his swearing-in at the State Department. He also served as acting archivist of the United States for about a year, stepping down in February. Rubio continues as interim national security advisor, a post he assumed in May after Michael Waltz's departure.
His multiple titles have sparked viral memes on social media. Images show doctored photos of Rubio in the Oval Office dressed as a Spirit Airlines pilot, White House beekeeper or Kentucky Derby jockey.
Over the weekend, Rubio appeared in a viral video behind a DJ booth at a family wedding. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted the clip on X. It shows Rubio with headphones, leaning over the controls as music plays and guests dance. He pumped his fist, nodded to the beat and seemed to cue the next track, prompting cheers from the crowd.
