International media have seized on UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's troubles following dismal local election results last week, with headlines portraying a deepening crisis for his leadership.

Germany's Bild, the country's largest newspaper, ran an article headlined "How long can Starmer hold out?" It described a "serious government crisis in Great Britain" and said Starmer is consulting confidants about his political future amid massive pressure from within his Labour Party.

Spain's El Mundo reported that the internal rebellion against Starmer is growing, though no alternative leader has emerged. French journalist Arnaud de La Grange wrote in the paper, "The question is not so much 'if they will succeed.' Rather, it is 'when they will succeed' and 'who will succeed.'" He added that while the Labour leader refuses to resign, rebellion is growing among Labour MPs, who seem only to hesitate over a timetable for launching a challenge procedure and internal election.

Russian media gave the story limited attention, but Rossiyskaya Gazeta used the headline "Starmer's doomsday." The paper said some party members are demanding blood from the prime minister, while others want to give him time, fearing Labour will be unable to recover from its failure by the 2029 elections.

In the United States, Fox News declared "Starmer on the brink" and cited a previous comment from Donald Trump: "This is not Winston Churchill that we're dealing with."

CNN reported that Starmer fights to save his premiership and noted Labour has never mounted an official challenge against a sitting prime minister. It said it is not clear if any of Starmer's rivals have the signatures required to mount a challenge, and many potential frontrunners are either untested or mired in scandal.

India's The Indian Express published an opinion piece claiming Starmer and Labour are hanging on by a thread. It questioned whether Britain is entering a new multi-party era after Reform UK and the Green Party made huge gains last week. London-based political commentator Rishabh Bhandari wrote, "Sir Keir's speech standing outside Downing Street after a victory in the last general election feels like light-years ago. He had promised a national renewal, a return of politics to public service, and to begin the work of change."
