Hurricanes Eye Eastern Conference Finals After Sweeping Senators, Face Flyers Next
The Carolina Hurricanes have dominated the Eastern Conference in the early rounds of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They swept the Ottawa Senators in the first round and now prepare to face the Philadelphia Flyers with a chance to reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the third time in four seasons.
Carolina holds a 30-10 record in the first two rounds across the past four postseasons, including this year. The team has reached the Eastern Conference Finals twice recently but gone 1-8 in those series, all against the Florida Panthers.
This year offers a different path. The back-to-back defending champion Panthers suffered injuries to star players and fatigue from deep playoff runs in three straight seasons. They fell from postseason locks in January to NHL Draft lottery contenders by spring.
No team benefits more than the Hurricanes. The Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens fill the other side of the bracket, but Carolina's gritty style and playoff experience position it for a deep run. The Hurricanes last won the Prince of Wales Trophy in 2006.
