New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers underwent a second surgery on his injured knee to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness, according to The Athletic.

The 22-year-old initially had surgery on his ACL and meniscus Oct. 28. The follow-up procedure took place weeks ago and was described as a cleanup. Multiple reports say it will not affect his recovery timeline.

The Giants still hope Nabers will play in their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.

Nabers tore his ACL and meniscus in his right knee Sept. 28 during the Giants' win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The victory came in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart's first career start, though Nabers left before halftime.

He had put together a strong sophomore season with 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games before the injury.

As a rookie, Nabers set a franchise record with 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns despite shaky quarterback play.

The Giants expect him to remain their top target for Dart. They remade their receiver group this offseason after Wan'Dale Robinson left in free agency for the Tennessee Titans. Robinson had 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns last season.

New York signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency and traded up in the third round of the NFL Draft for Malachi Fields. The team also added tight end Isaiah Likely, another option for the 23-year-old quarterback.
