Pop singer Dua Lipa sued Samsung on Friday in California federal court. She accused the company of copyright and trademark infringement and violating her right of publicity by placing an image of her face on cardboard boxes for Samsung TVs without permission.

The image, owned by Lipa, shows her backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, according to the legal filing. Lipa seeks up to $15 million in damages.

The lawsuit alleges Samsung's use of the image was designed to capitalize on Lipa's success to promote and sell its products. It claims the image deceives customers into believing Lipa endorsed the TVs and dilutes her brand identity.

One social media post cited in the suit included a fan comment: they would "get that TV just because Dua is on it."

Representatives for Lipa did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Samsung spokesperson said the company cannot comment on pending litigation.

Lipa learned in June 2025 that Samsung was using her image and demanded the company stop. Her lawyers allege the South Korean electronics maker repeatedly refused and that infringing products remain on the market. The lawsuit states Samsung's response has been dismissive and callous.
