Yellowstone star Cole Hauser says rattlesnakes shut down filming
Filming in rugged Texas terrain brought a common safety concern for the cast of Yellowstone, according to Cole Hauser.
The 51-year-old actor, who plays Rip Wheeler, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show with co-star Kelly Reilly. He said production once ended early because of rattlesnakes.
"Eight months, 3,400 rattlesnakes in fact," Hauser told Clarkson.
Reilly asked if the crew had filmed near a rattlesnake den. Hauser said the location they used had so many snakes that the crew was turned away at night.
"That particular location we were at, we actually were going to go from there at night and got turned away," he said. "Christina found like, I don't know, 40 or 50 rattlesnakes."
Michelle Pfeiffer, who stars in the Yellowstone spinoff The Madison, described similar difficulties while filming in Montana and Texas. She said the sets lacked basic facilities.
"You may as well be in a tent because, you know, there is no bathroom," Pfeiffer said. "Even the outhouse is not real. So there's no AC, there's no plumbing, there isn't anything."
She added that the crew built a cabin quickly and shot scenes in every direction, which left little room for trailers or seating. There was also no nearby bathroom or food service.
"In the winter, it was cold," Pfeiffer said. "It was like, 'Could we have a heater?' And in the summer, it was like, 'Could I get an umbrella because the sun's really intense?'"
