Charlamagne Tha God Claims Trump White House Ballroom Proves Third-Term Plans
Progressive political commentator Larry McKelvey, known as Charlamagne Tha God, said the White House ballroom project proves President Donald Trump plans to run for a third term.
The guest host on "The Late Show" made the argument Wednesday. His comments have drawn concerns from some that they could incite violence.
"Do you seriously think he’s building that for the next guy?" Charlamagne asked. "You think he likes J.D. Vance that much? You think he’s doing that level of solid for Marco Rubio?"
He referenced Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the most likely successors to the MAGA movement.
Charlamagne's remarks, delivered as hyperbolic jokes, echo far-left claims that Trump shows king-like disregard for term limits in his second term. They also mirror Trump's own jokes about breaking constitutional restrictions.
"I’m not asking Trump not to run for a third term," Charlamagne said. "Trump is going to Trump. What I’m asking is for the Republican Party to be honest for once and tell us whether or not you want this man to be king, okay? I’m tired of edging dictatorship."
Hogan Gidley, a former White House deputy press secretary, told Fox News Digital that some viewers will not see the comments as jokes.
"They have no clue what their comments actually mean to those out there who want to commit acts of violence, which is ignorant and bad enough," Gidley said. He pointed to multiple assassination attempts against Trump and his administration officials.
"Or — they know exactly what they're doing, creating a permission structure for violence. Either way, it's hurtful to our country," he added.
The 22nd Amendment limits U.S. presidents to two terms. Lawmakers added it in 1951 after Franklin D. Roosevelt served four.
Gidley said the renovations do not prove Trump seeks to bypass the limit. "Context matters," he noted.
"For safety and security, it makes complete sense to have a facility that all presidents can use to entertain foreign heads of state, to entertain different guests on various occasions under the watchful eye of a controlled space."
Last month at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, a gunman charged a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton in a third assassination attempt on Trump. Trump has said a ballroom-like space could host such events more securely.
Charlamagne joked about Trump using the ballroom in a third term. "On January 20th, 2029, Trump is going to go into that ballroom, with a stack of hustlers, a crate of Big Macs and lock the door from the inside," he said.
White House press releases state the 90,000-square-foot ballroom, designed to seat 650 people, will finish before the end of Trump's second term.
The Daily Show and the White House did not respond to Fox News Digital requests for comment on Charlamagne's remarks.
