Celebrities Split Over Spencer Pratt's Los Angeles Mayoral Campaign
Spencer Pratt's campaign for mayor of Los Angeles has split Hollywood, with celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Kristin Cavallari, Billy Bush and others picking sides as the 42-year-old reality star from "The Hills" gains momentum.
Pratt, who lost his Pacific Palisades home in the devastating LA fires, announced his independent bid for City Hall in January. He has criticized incumbent Mayor Karen Bass over her wildfire response and focused on homelessness, public safety, wildfire preparedness and government spending. A registered Republican, Pratt runs as an independent in the nonpartisan race and calls himself a "community advocate" on local issues.
His campaign picked up after a strong showing in a mayoral debate with Bass and Council member Nithya Raman, plus viral ads. Polls ahead of the June 2 primary put Bass first, followed by Pratt and Raman, with many voters undecided. No one nears the 50 percent needed to win outright, so a November runoff between the top two seems likely.
Supporters include podcaster Joe Rogan, who on the April 15 "Joe Rogan Experience" said, "Listen, man. I'm voting for you. I can't vote for you, but I'm rooting for you." A Texas resident, Rogan added, "If I lived in Los Angeles, no question whatsoever, I would vote for you."
Actor James Woods praised Pratt after the debate on X: "Spencer Pratt is surprisingly effective, direct, polite, and prepared in tonight’s debate. The other two have history as their enemy because everything they’ve done has been a catastrophe. He can absolutely win this thing."
Paris Hilton commented "Spencer for Mayor" with a raised hands emoji on Pratt's April 24 Instagram video of his Airstream trailer amid fire rubble.
Billy Bush on "Jesse Watters Primetime" said, "Look, he’s for real. He won that debate flat out on NBC 4. His command of the facts was fantastic. His command of the room was fantastic." Bush added that Pratt commits to transparency, auditing the city and tackling debt, homelessness and drugs. "This is a guy whose house burned down, and he said 'I'm going to step up and do something about it,'" Bush said.
Kristin Cavallari, a "Hills" co-star, called the run "f------ genius" on her April 21 "Let’s Be Honest" podcast. "Everyone in politics — I don’t care what side you’re on — everyone is corrupt," she said. "That's why I love Spencer running for mayor because he is a real person who is going to call out the corruption."
Audrina Patridge told Us Weekly on May 1, "He impressed me. He is very intelligent, and I think that he would make a lot of change to L.A." Brody Jenner defended Pratt's credentials on Instagram Story, noting his USC political science degree and saying, "Spencer isn't afraid to think differently or speak up, and that's exactly what this city needs."
Donors include Katharine McPhee, Doug Reinhardt, Jeff Jenkins and Rick Salomon. Adam Carolla endorsed Pratt on his April 21 podcast, calling opponents "Marxist, socialist f----- r----ds" and posting on Instagram, "This man is going to save LA. @spencerpratt has my full endorsement for mayor!" Joanna Krupa backed him at a dog adoption event, writing on Instagram, "He’s not a politician. He’s a real person who lost his home in the Palisades fire."
Nick Viall, DJ Kaskade and Amber Rose also voiced support in comments.
Critics include Pratt's sister Stephanie Pratt, who posted on X in February that he seeks relevance for his January memoir "The Guy You Loved to Hate." "LA does not need another unqualified and inexperienced mayor. A vote for him is a vote for stupidity," she wrote.
Heather McDonald drew backlash for her X post cheering Pratt's debate: "Watching @spencerpratt in the mayoral debate! Let’s Go Spencer!" Yvette Nicole Brown replied, "Heather, d--n," with a broken heart emoji. Bobby Berk wrote, "Girl, seriously. WTF?!? So embarrassed for you." Holly Robinson Peete added a face-palming emoji. Brown reposted a People article on April 24 about Pratt's donations topping Bass's, writing on Threads, "This nation is unserious and has learned nothing."
