Atlanta Drag Group Recruits Teens as Young as 13 for Pride Show
An Atlanta drag and queer events group is recruiting children as young as 13 to perform in drag shows, prompting online backlash.
House of ALXNDR posted a call on Facebook Tuesday for "drag newcomers ages 13-18." The post, which appears to have been removed after a Fox News Digital inquiry, asked: "Are you a teenager or parent of a teenager who is interested in performing in drag? We’re accepting submissions for our Cabbage Patch All Ages show during our Pride Month Artist Market & Drag Party."
The event is set for Sunday, June 14, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a show at 2 p.m., at Wild Heaven Beer: West End Brewery & Gardens in Atlanta.
Taylor Alxndr founded House of ALXNDR. The group's website calls Alxndr "the underground drag icon and queer artist making a big splash in Atlanta and beyond." It adds that Alxndr "has cemented herself as a true leader and innovator in the world of drag and LGBTQ+ performance."
Alxndr's awards include 2024 Atlanta Pride Grand Marshal, OUT Georgia's 2021 Next Gen Leader of the Year, The Trans Life Awards’ Pioneer of Inspiration award, Wussy Mag’s 2023 Peachy Awards for Best Musician and Best Producer, 2024 Peachy Awards for Best Host and Best Party, and multiple years as Atlanta's Best Drag Queen & LGBTQ Performer.
Alxndr has opened for entertainers such as Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, King Princess, JunglePussy, Mr. Twin Sister, Latrice Royale, and Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, the website states.
A LibsofTikTok post on X about the event drew sharp responses. One user wrote, "What kind of parent would sign-up their kids to perform in drag? These are sick people." Another said, "People can be as freaky as they want to be, but it needs to remain behind closed doors and they need to stay the f---k away from children!"
Last year, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-described "order of queer and trans nuns," faced backlash for "No Easter without the T," an event honoring transgender people that featured a children’s Easter egg hunt and a costume contest for "Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary."
