Alan Carr and Paloma Faith Pose as Friends at Bafta TV Awards Despite Show 'Murder'
Alan Carr and Paloma Faith put aside their Celebrity Traitors rivalry with smiles and photos on the Bafta TV Awards red carpet at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.
Carr, winner of the first Celebrity Traitors series, had surprised viewers by eliminating Faith despite their real-life friendship. Bafta posted on X: "Breaking news: Alan Carr and Paloma Faith are still friends." Host Greg Davies later joked during the ceremony, "Celebrity Traitors managed to turn Alan Carr into a manipulative serial killer. We all know he's a good person." Faith, seated next to Carr, wagged her finger at the camera with a smile.
Carr won the memorable moments award for tricking fellow finalists into thinking he was a faithful. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated it to Faith: "I dedicate this to Paloma -- there's no one else I would rather murder more than you, I love you."
Danny Dyer and his daughter Dani Dyer presented the best reality show award. Danny quipped, "Two Danny Dyers at the Baftas. Do you know how people tell us apart? My chins." Dani replied, "I love your chins, dad."
Backstage, Danny Dyer discussed his heartthrob status from the Disney+ series Rivals. "Who's Gen Z again?" he asked. Dani said, "I'm on the cusp of a Gen Z." Dyer added, "Nah, I don't think I'm a heartthrob to that age group. It's more older women, in their 40s." He noted the new Rivals series leaves him "very much exposed, naked a lot. So I do apologise for that... I will shatter the myth."
Martin Lewis, receiving the Bafta Television special award, revealed his impulse buys backstage: a Van de Graaff generator and a theremin.
Owen Cooper, 16, won best supporting actor for Adolescence as young teen Jamie Miller. The series took multiple awards after a year of victories. Cooper said backstage, "Every time we are at these sort of events, and your name gets called out, your mind just flashes back to the first audition, the first time on set, the first time meeting the cast and stuff like that. So it's been an unreal two years."
Stephen Graham, who starred in and co-wrote Adolescence, called himself "just one piece in the puzzle" while praising colleagues. He said he was "exceptionally proud" of the work.
Gaza: Doctors Under Attack won the current affairs prize. The BBC pulled it last year over impartiality concerns but Channel 4 aired it. Producer Ben de Pear asked the BBC backstage, "Given you dropped our film, will you drop us from the Bafta screening later tonight?" He thanked Gaza journalists on the ground.
De Pear told reporters, "It was the commissioners at the BBC who had the problem engaging with the material, not the doctors who lost their families or the viewers." The BBC had stated it aimed to report the Middle East conflict impartially and fairly. Extracts of de Pear's speech appeared in BBC One's awards broadcast.
Orange outfits dominated the chilly red carpet, including Adjoa Andoh's pantsuit, Ayamé Ponder's flowy dress and Lucy Punch's gown.
Host Greg Davies approached last year's Bafta fellowship winner Kirsty Wark to present an award. She made him repeat the request politely, then turned away with an emphatic "No." Davies feigned distress as Wark winked at the camera.
Dame Mary Berry, receiving the Bafta fellowship, called the front-row wait "agony." She said, "I listened to everybody giving the most wonderful speeches and laughs and so on, but [I was thinking] it's going to be me soon. I hope they'll laugh."
Judi Love called Louis Theroux "sexy" from the audience and joked that Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan would appear on TV together again. She pointed to her face, suggesting herself for their next series.
Greg Davies referenced Celia Imrie's viral accidental fart from a BBC reality show filming. Seth Rogen joked after a clip aired, "I assume this woman in the green dress is a very skilled and talented woman. All I know is that she farted on a reality show. I'm interested in your other work now, obviously -- what else have you done?"
