UK Director of Public Prosecutions Orders Fast-Tracking of Hate Crime Cases After Antisemitic Incidents
Britain's director of public prosecutions has confirmed that hate crime prosecutions will be fast-tracked after a series of recent antisemitic incidents.
Stephen Parkinson issued instructions to prosecutors in England and Wales. He said more action is required to address "daily incidents affecting the Jewish community, involving threats and abuse designed to cause fear and distress."
Parkinson stated that charges must be brought more quickly because "it is important law enforcement steps up and recognises we are in a period of crisis for the Jewish community."
The move follows the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green and several arson incidents in areas with large Jewish communities.
He added: "If we allow this behaviour to become normalised, then its seriousness will become diminished and the problem of antisemitism will continue to grow. We must stop it in its tracks."
The Crown Prosecution Service reported that it prosecuted 658 cases flagged as religious hate crimes in the year to September 2025. Nearly four fifths of those cases resulted in a conviction.
In the same period, there were 11,140 cases of racial hate crime, with a conviction rate of 85.2 percent.
