Trump Weighs Restarting Military Action on Iran After China Trip

President Donald Trump is weighing a return to military action against Iran after his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. He is scheduled to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.

Netanyahu said Sunday morning that he would speak with Trump later in the day. "I will certainly hear impressions from his trip to China, and perhaps other matters as well," Netanyahu said. "There are certainly many possibilities, and we are prepared for every scenario."

Trump remained at the White House on Sunday with no public appearances scheduled.

The planned call comes as regional intelligence officials assess that Trump may restart military strikes because of frustration with Iran’s tactics. Those tactics include the closing of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

Two regional intelligence officials told Fox News that Tehran is pursuing a strategy of "deception and delay" in hopes of buying time that would make a return to war more difficult for Trump, both politically and operationally. The officials said Iranian leaders believe they can stretch the crisis for at least two more weeks.

Iranian officials are also looking at the World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary as events that could work in their favor, the sources said.

The impact of the U.S.-led blockade is becoming more visible inside Iran, according to a senior Israeli official. Long lines at gas stations and growing public discontent over fuel shortages have emerged over the weekend. Prices are rising, unemployment is climbing, and inflation is accelerating sharply. "It’s getting exponentially worse," the official said.
