President Donald Trump called for voters to defeat Rep. Thomas Massie in Tuesday's Republican primary for Kentucky's 4th Congressional District.

Trump posted on Truth Social shortly after midnight that Massie is "the worst and most unreliable Republican Congressman in the history of our Country" and an even bigger insult than Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. Cassidy failed to advance in Louisiana's Republican Senate primary Saturday night after finishing behind Rep. Letlow and state Treasurer John Fleming. Letlow and Fleming will face each other in a June 27 runoff.

"This is the first time such a thing has ever happened to a sitting U.S. Senator!" Trump wrote. "That's what you get by voting to Impeach an innocent man, especially one who made it possible for Cassidy's Senate win."

Cassidy was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump called Cassidy "disloyal" and said his "political career is OVER!"

Trump endorsed Ed Gallrein, a Kentucky farmer and war veteran, to challenge Massie. He described Gallrein as "a great man, Central Casting, in fact," and said he "truly deserves to represent the fantastic people of Kentucky."

Massie has represented the district since 2012. The heavily Republican area makes the GOP primary the decisive contest in most cycles. Trump has targeted Massie for opposing his agenda, including a short-term government funding bill in March 2025 and his decision to go to war with Iran.

Trump also criticized Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado for supporting Massie and suggested he might withdraw his endorsement of her if a challenger enters her race. Massie told reporters that Boebert's primary filing deadline had already passed.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky campaigned with Massie on Saturday. Trump had warned that Paul and Boebert were "parading around like fools" for Massie in Kentucky, which he said he won by 31 points.
