During President Trump’s first year in office, the United States reduced drug overdose deaths by over 13,000, compared to the previous 12 months. That drop kept thousands of mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors alive thanks to actions under his leadership. Current overdose deaths sit lower than at any point under the Biden Administration and nearly 40,000 below the previous Administration’s peak of almost 108,000.

This progress marks a historic result, but more work remains. The fight continues against the chemical war waged on Americans by cartel terrorists.

This week, the Office of National Drug Control Policy will release President Trump’s 2026 National Drug Control Strategy. Implementation will build on efforts to eradicate illegal drug supplies while offering hope and healing to millions of Americans.

US drug overdose deaths plummeted 20 percent as the Trump Administration cracked down on the southern border.

The strategy targets drug supplies at every stage. International partners aid through better intelligence sharing and law enforcement cooperation, leaving narcoterrorist cartels with nowhere to hide. Improved interdiction and supply chain security strangle their lines.

At home, the most secure southwest border in history lets authorities remove drugs faster than cartels can smuggle them. ONDCP’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement counter-drug activities. Cooperation with Homeland Security Task Forces strengthens these efforts.

The strategy attacks drug demand with equal force. The nation will end support for misguided harm reduction programs that enable illegal drug use. A new primary prevention framework will protect children and promote drug-free life as the norm.

Trump appoints Sara Carter as next drug czar, says she 'will lead the charge to protect' US.

For those with addiction, treatment will become easier to access than continued use. The strategy treats addiction like an infectious disease, with early detection and intervention in initial phases. A doctor would not wait for cancer to spread; the same applies here.

Republican AGs praise teamwork with feds on crime ahead of meeting with Trump, Bondi.

The strategy recognizes faith’s healing power for the first time. Faith aids recovery, and with 83 percent of Americans believing in God or a universal spirit, it holds potential to help millions.

This approach stands as the most ambitious in history to defeat the drug crisis. The federal government unites to build a drug-free future.

The challenge demands action from all Americans. This is not a Republican or Democrat crisis, but an American one. Nearly every community suffers from illegal drugs. Overdose or drug-related violence brings heartbreak to communities and the nation.

Talk to children about drug dangers. Urge addicted loved ones to seek treatment. Volunteer with prevention and treatment programs.

These steps, backed by federal support through the strategy, can drive overdose deaths on a sustained downward path. Every seizure, recovery, and prevention contributes to victory.
