Suspect in Colorado pro-Israel rally firebombing to plead guilty to murder
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, accused of firebombing a pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado, with Molotov cocktails, will plead guilty to murder and other state charges, according to court documents viewed by The Associated Press.
The attack took place on June 1, 2025, during a demonstration in the college town. Eighty-two-year-old Karen Diamond died, and about a dozen others suffered injuries.
Prosecutors said Soliman disguised himself as a gardener before throwing two flaming projectiles at the demonstrators.
The Egyptian national, who was living illegally in the U.S., initially pleaded not guilty. Investigators stated he planned the attack for a year, motivated by a desire "to kill all Zionist people."
Soliman faces dozens of state charges plus federal hate-crime charges. Prosecutors are considering the death penalty in the federal case. His lawyers have offered a guilty plea to the state charges in exchange for a life sentence, the AP reported.
Soliman told investigators he intended to kill the 20 people at the rally, which called for the release of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attack.
His lawyers contend he targeted a political movement in Zionism, not a religious or ethnic group, which they say would exclude hate-crime status. He still faces more than a dozen hate-crime charges.
Soliman originally planned to buy a gun and shoot the demonstrators but switched to Molotov cocktails after being denied a firearm because of his immigration status, Fox News Digital previously reported.
He is due in court Thursday to enter the guilty plea, the AP reported.
Fox News Digital reached out to Soliman's public defender's office for comment but received no immediate response. The U.S. Attorney's Office for Colorado declined to comment.
