Spencer Pratt Claims Hollywood Stars Back His LA Mayoral Bid Against Bass
Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, a former reality star, said Hollywood's biggest names back his campaign against incumbent Karen Bass. In an exclusive interview with the Ruthless Podcast released Tuesday, Pratt described support from movie stars, directors and studio presidents unhappy with the city's leadership.
"The list of mind-blowing movie stars, directors, studio presidents, these are my supporters," Pratt said. "I understand why they aren't public-facing yet. Once I'm mayor, the support I'll have for the industry to bring it back. It's all there."
Pratt has received donations from prominent celebrities, including former Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, Doug Reinhardt—a fellow cast member on The Hills and ex-boyfriend of Lauren Conrad—and Jeff Jenkins, producer of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
The interview followed Pratt's viral X advertising campaign that criticized Bass's response to the 2025 Palisades Wildfires. The fires destroyed his family's home, and Pratt emerged as a leading advocate for victims.
"My goal was just for these people to go to jail," Pratt said. "And then when they didn't go to jail, and I saw that it was just business as usual, that's when I decided the only way to stop these people is to take their power from them."
Pratt grew up around Democrats but had not considered politics before the fires. "I haven't posted a single political thing in my entire life," he said. The only prior political act he mentioned was wearing a Sarah Palin shirt and then an Obama shirt for paparazzi photos to generate tabloid coverage.
Recent reports show Pratt has outfundraised Bass since January. A poll had Pratt at 11 percent to Bass's 25 percent, with Councilwoman Nithya Raman at 9 percent.
Pratt said Bass's failures transcend party lines. "It's a non-partisan race for a reason," he said. "There's a reason the mayor is supposed to be a non-partisan city employee because, at the end of the day, they are employees. People forget Karen Bass works for me right now, and she's failed. She's done. She should be in jail. These people are demons I'm running against."
Podcast co-host Josh Holmes told Pratt his outsider status lets him challenge entrenched party politics. "I think, from my perspective, an awful lot of what's been going on [in Los Angeles] is just sort of your party politics as would, you know, there's more Democrats than Republicans," Holmes said. "And nobody's had a chance to actually assess whether they're being served good government in a very long time."
Pratt appeared on Ruthless as part of its Midterm Interview Series, which has featured candidates in 14 states with more planned ahead of November primaries.
Los Angeles voters go to the polls June 2 for the nonpartisan mayoral race. A runoff is set for November 3 if no candidate wins a majority.
