Sharkey Family's London Studio Captured Passport Photos of Ali, Jaggers, Hockney and More
Dave Sharkey, a former professional boxer, and his wife Ann founded a photographic studio on Oxford Street in London in 1953. The business offered prints ready in 10 minutes, a service no one else in the city provided at the time.
Its location near the US embassy and Selfridges drew crowds. The studio, later taken over by the couple's son Philip, served as a hub for artists, actors, musicians and athletes seeking passport photos.
Muhammad Ali, Bianca and Mick Jagger, David Hockney, Tilda Swinton and many others posed there over the years.
Passport Photo Service, a book published by Phaidon Press, collects more than 300 celebrity portraits from the studio spanning the 1950s to the 2010s.
