Sen. John Kennedy names elliptical trainer Margaret after Thatcher

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., posted a minute-long video on social media Friday showing an elliptical trainer he keeps under his carport in Louisiana.

"Hey X, I have somebody I'd like you to meet," Kennedy says at the start of the clip. "This is Margaret. Margaret is my elliptical trainer. I named Margaret after Margaret Thatcher because both kick butt and take names."

Kennedy said the machine stays outside for three reasons: it is too heavy to move, his wife will not allow it inside, and he likes to exercise during Louisiana summers. He added that after the workout he looks for air conditioning.

The video drew thousands of reactions. Some viewers mocked the red bandanna Kennedy wore while filming, while others praised his down-home style. One user wrote that Kennedy is "that kind of Southerner that makes you feel you're sitting on the front porch having some bit of common sense enlighten you in that poetic Southern way."

Kennedy closed the clip by saying, "My work here is done. And I can see myself out."
