Rousey Stops Carano With Armbar in 17 Seconds at Netflix MMA Event
Ronda Rousey returned to mixed martial arts after nine and a half years away and needed just 17 seconds to finish Gina Carano with her signature armbar.
Rousey, 39, charged across the cage at the opening bell and took Carano to the mat. She quickly secured the armbar, forcing a stoppage at the Intuit Dome in what was the first live MMA event on Netflix.
After the fight, Rousey said she wanted to end the bout quickly. "My husband and my kids are watching me," she said. "I don't want to put them through anything more than I have to."
Rousey improved to 13-2 and said she plans to retire after the victory. Carano, 44, had not fought in 17 years. She smiled after the loss and said she felt ready but had not competed in nearly two decades.
The two fighters embraced after the bout. Carano said she used the fight to overcome recent health issues and called the experience a victory. Promoter Nakisa Bidarian said he would like to book Carano again.
