Red Sox Crush Tigers 10-3, Hit by Pitch Sparks Broadcast Fury at Valdez

The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 10-3 Tuesday night in a one-sided game marked by a benches-clearing incident.

Boston jumped on Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez early, scoring 10 runs over three-plus innings while hitting three home runs off him. The fourth inning turned chaotic when Valdez surrendered a home run to Wilson Contreras to open the frame, followed by another from Wilyer Abreu. Trevor Story, the third batter, took a pitch to the back on the first delivery.

NESN analysts ripped Valdez on air. "You can't get them out, so you throw at them. What a joke. The one guy who caused it is hiding in the back," said analyst Will Middlebrooks.

"That is weak," added play-by-play announcer Dave O'Brien. "You give up three home runs, back-to-back shots, and then you drill Trevor Story."

Middlebrooks followed up: "Well, let's just hope he doesn't cross up his catcher now that he's mad."

The Red Sox never retaliated. Valdez played it off after the game when asked about hitting Story.
