Pennsylvania voters went to the polls on Tuesday to choose Republican and Democratic candidates for congressional, gubernatorial and local races.

The state has closed primaries, so only voters registered as Democrats or Republicans could take part in their party's contests. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 8 p.m., though anyone in line by closing time was allowed to vote.

Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro ran unopposed in his primary, as did Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity. The matchup sets up an expensive general election race. Shapiro's campaign raised ten times as much money as Garrity's in the first three months of the year.

Lt. Gov. Austin Davis also ran unopposed on the Democratic side. Garrity endorsed Jason Richey as her running mate instead of John Ventre.

Several U.S. House races were on the ballot. Philadelphia's 3rd Congressional District is open for the first time in nearly a decade after Rep. Dwight Evans said he would not seek re-election, drawing a crowded field of candidates.

In the Pittsburgh area, Democratic Rep. Summer Lee sought a third term against Will Parker. The winner will face Republican James Hayes, who ran unopposed. In the 17th Congressional District, Beaver County Sheriff Tony Guy and business manager Jesse James Vodvarka competed on the Republican ballot to challenge Democratic Rep. Chris Deluzio, who faced no primary opponent.

Voters also chose candidates for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and state Senate. Democrats control the House and Republicans control the Senate.
