Paramount+ Drops Trailer for Yellowstone Spinoff Dutton Ranch Starring Beth and Rip
Fans of Yellowstone are buzzing over the new trailer for Dutton Ranch, the upcoming spinoff series on Paramount+.
The show premieres May 15 and tracks Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, and Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser. The pair leaves Montana after the flagship series finale and heads to Texas. Thursday's trailer shows them facing fresh conflict, violence and high-stakes power struggles as they try to start over.
Beth tells Rip, "I miss him," in an early scene. She refers to her father, John Dutton III, played by Kevin Costner, who died in Yellowstone's fifth season. Rip replies, "We brought the best part of your father with us," as the camera shows a cowboy hat and a photo of a younger John, played by Josh Lucas.
Finn Little returns as Carter, Beth and Rip's adopted son. New cast members include Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson, head of a powerful Texas ranch, and Ed Harris as veterinarian Everett McKinney. Bening says in the trailer, "Rio Paloma is a bit more complicated."
Jai Courtney plays Texas ranch foreman Rob-Will. He says, "No one understands what we done to protect this ranch." Beth tells Carter, "I need you ready for the hard parts 'cause they're coming," while loading a shotgun. Carter replies, "Sounds like fun."
The trailer includes sweeping shots of their Texas life, then cuts to bar fights, fire, destruction and a body thrown off a cliff. It ends with Beth saying, "A legacy is a beautiful thing but only if it survives."
Social media lit up after the release. One Instagram user wrote, "I do not have the words to properly express just how excited I am for this series." Another said, "This is going to be epic." Fans gushed, "Could not be more excited," and "I am way too ready for this!"
One user called it "the best show I’ve ever watched in my entire life!!!!!" Another added, "I am SO pumped for this." A fan referenced Yellowstone's train station cliff, writing, "Did they find a new train station? Let's GO!!!"
Enthusiasm ran high for Beth and Rip's return. "The best couple in history is back again," one commented. Another wrote, "Ohhh i'm abt to pass out, i'm so excited to have them back on my screen !!!!! my parents are back!" A third said, "Bring it on icons."
The official synopsis states: "As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together - far from the ghosts of Yellowstone - they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul."
The cast also includes Juan Pablo Raba, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Kelly Reilly spoke to The Sunday Times in January about Beth's next chapter. "This is a different era – I had hit my quota of the younger Beth," she said. "But there is a lot of why the audience fell in love with her. Beth was unrelenting, dangerous and could easily have been written as a man — people were very critical at the start."
Reilly said early criticism stemmed from Beth defying expectations for women on screen. "She is unapologetic, out there, flawed, damaged and brave," she added. "Women are always asked to play strong role model types, while men can play the gnarliest characters and get away with it. That was very freeing."
Dutton Ranch debuts globally on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET/PT on May 15 with two episodes. New installments follow weekly through the nine-episode first season.
