North Carolina substitute teacher gets 20-33 months for indecent liberties with 15-year-old

A North Carolina substitute teacher photographed crying in her mugshot after admitting sex with a 15-year-old student reached a plea deal.

Katelyn Dawn Schronce, 33, was arrested on April 17, 2025, and initially charged with statutory rape, a charge that carried a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

On Thursday, she pleaded guilty to indecent liberties with a child. A judge sentenced her to between 20 and 33 months behind bars, according to WHKY. The deal also bars her from contacting the 15-year-old victim.

Fox News Digital reached out to Schronce's attorney, Glen Thomas, for comment.

Schronce had started working as a substitute teacher for Catawba County Schools in October 2024. The district fired her after the arrest.

"Catawba County Schools was recently made aware of the arrest of substitute employee Katelyn Schronce for serious criminal charges," the district said in a statement.

"There is no indication at this time that the charges are connected to her employment in our district."
